Calgary, Alberta, Canada — March 13, 2019 — On the eve of the snowfall season, an annual snow-covered walk down the slopes of Mount Snow Mountain was halted in Calgary for several hours Saturday after an unidentified driver plowed into a group of snowmobilers, killing two people and injuring three others.
A spokesman for the Alberta Department of Transportation said the driver, whose name was not released, was taken into custody.
No one else was injured.
He is expected to be charged.
The snow march has been organized annually by the Snow Mountain Committee for more than a decade and takes place at various locations throughout the province.
The group, which includes Calgary’s Snow Mountain Park and Snowmobil, has been on hold for months, as organizers seek to clear snow and maintain public order in Calgary.
