It has also become one of New South Wales’s most popular tourist destinations and is a popular site for snow-capped peaks and snow-covered trails.
Mount Moray is one the hardest hit areas on Australia’s Western Front, with a significant snowfall last week.
It was not clear how bad the snow was.
But the weather bureau says it is the worst the region has seen since records began in the 1960s.
“There is now very little visibility, it is a very dangerous situation,” the bureau’s chief executive Andrew Turner said.
“The Mount Mortys snowfall is unprecedented, with the highest snowfall on record.”
It has caused major damage to roads and infrastructure, including bridges, and forced the closure of some roads.ABC meteorologist Mark Prentice said there was no indication the storm would turn into a major snowstorm.
“It’s not as if the snow is going to melt,” he said.
“It will only cause a small amount of damage, but it will be very, very significant.”
